Microsoft’s Chief Software Architect Calls It A Day

Ray Ozzie, Microsoft’s Chief Software Architect, is calling it quits — Engadget:

“Ballmer doesn’t plan to fill the ‘unique’ role of Chief Software Architect when he’s gone.”

Just one more example of how Microsoft is slowly losing the war and grip on reality. Windows 7 is a pretty good effort, I would even say the best in a long time, but it is far from being a revolutionary in the OS scene. Apple’s Mac OS X and the many Linux distros have been setting the pace for new features for a long time now. Does MS need a Chief Software Architect? Only if it’s new goal is to be an “Also Ran”, merely keeping up with the new developments but never forging ahead and being the market leader again.
