Google Announces Cr-48 Chrome’s First Lappie

Google have finally unveiled their Chrome OS laptop which will be available in the new year and still won’t wrong run any real apps apart from web apps making it almost useless without a high speed internet connection. While I am obviously more than a little attached to my developer needs and my MacBook Pro with all of it’s hard drive space and beautiful applications, I am probably not the best one to speak out on this “not a netbook/notebook” lappie.

Engadget list the specs as:

  • 12.1-inch screen.
  • Full size keyboard.
  • Oversized clickpad.
  • Qualcomm Gobi 3G chip for Verizon data in the US, your carrier of choice internationally.
  • 802.11n dual-band WiFi.
  • 8+ hours of active use.
  • 8+ days of standby.
  • Webcam.
  • Flash storage.

While it is true that most laptops are starting to all look alike, I can’t help but notice how much this one is a though back to the original black MackBook with a with IBM Thinkpad squareness thrown at it. At least the mousepad is huge.

It is rather interesting that the Google Lappie should look towards the MacBook line just like the Nexus S borrows from the iPhone look.
