Douglas Adams Would Have Been Proud! 101010

Douglas Adams Day!:

Forty-two, said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm. …

Forty-two! yelled Loonquawl. Is that all you’ve got to show for seven and a half million years’ work?

I checked it very thoroughly, said the computer, and that quite definitely is the answer. I think the problem, to be quite honest with you, is that you’ve never actually known what the question is.

How did you spend binary day? What did you do in order to honour the memory of Douglas Adams? I’m not even going to take the time to explain the link between 101010 and Douglas Adams because it should be obvious to anyone familiar with this site by now.

I put the finishing touches on DadCast 23 which is our tablet review show and we even mention the Kindle itself at the 37:00 minute mark. It’s quite amusing that we all carry the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on us everyday without knowingly realizing it. The similarities between the iPhones, Androids and new tablets is really quite awesome. I honestly think Douglas Adams would be pretty impressed with how far Apple has come since he bought the very first Mac to be sold in the UK.

The rest of the day was spent setting up my Godson’s washer and dryer knee deep in towels and all before heading to the Arena with my youngest daughter for her ringuette game and capping it all off with some homemade BBQ’s Tandoori Chicken, papadusm and some Alexander Keiths Red Amber Ale, definitely no Pan-Galactic Gargleblaster but considering my Sinus cold, I’m pretty sure my wife appreciated that I spare her from having to the clean up the mess after “having your brain smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped round a large gold brick.”

All in all, a great way to spend a Sunday really.

Photos coming, eventually…

Binary day was spent the way any day after a late night wedding party should be spent: hiking up a mountain with your extended family to celebrate your mother in-law’s birthday! The kids were with my parents while we attended the wedding but Sunday morning we dragged our butts out of bed, picked up the children, and caught-up with the rest of family. There was a festival going on in town and at the base of the mountain so traffic was horrid but we got through all that and struck out for the summit. I’m happy to say my three year old daughter made it all the way and down on her own. My one year old son insisted on trying but was pretty happy to hop back into his carrier when his little legs got tired.

Afterwards it was a combo birthday/thanksgiving dinner with a HUGE turkey, potatoes, and all. We ate too much, stayed up too late, and knew we were doing it again the next day at my parents!

No pics from me.  I gave up photography because I discovered that camera lenses rip people’s souls outta their bodies and replaces them with whiny politicians who lob hesaid/shesaid bombs at each other when they don’t make the Team.

99.95% of my Outlaws do not know where their towels are at.  They are not tuned to Geekdom fiction by any means.  That said, I fulfill my aficionado’s duty as I tried to explain the “significance” (read humour) of 101010…but to no avail.  My efforts got me nothin’ but zeros across the board!  It kinda sucks when you are the only one within a five km radius who guffaws when somebody says Don’t Panic and uses Burg42 as a nick!  They would much prefer swill that godawful,  Nationally brewed piss-water than enjoy the brain altering delights of my take on the PGGB, the Dirty Martini – what? it has an olive!

Too much to drink, too much blah food (but the leftover, Oh Boy! lots of sammiches this week, yay!) and wayyyy too many bad movies;.e.g The Prince of Persia and The Karate Kid’s remake (blech) and a Harry Potter ripoff…uh, Percy Jackson at the Olympics: the Thief of Baghdad, I think.

I guess that 101010 is the number of years I feel I aged this weekend…

McGoo’s 101010

We spent our 101010 at my sister’s place, celebrating our niece’s birthday (and turkey day!!). We took care of the turkey on 091010, where I was able to go to the London (Ontario) war museum . The kids had a blast, and the fun was had by all. My wife managed to score a nap while the littlest McGoo slept. Back to 101010, it was my turn to stay back with the little guy, and as chance would have it, I napped during PM nap time while everyone else went to a kid’s park. It was a totally low tech 101010, but we spent it with family.  Any weekend where we  parents can manage a couple of 3 hour naps is awesome by definition.

More to come as we try and locate Steph…
